President’s Message

Our March meeting was the type of technical program that many of our members request. Mike Ray’s presentation was well received according to all the reports I have heard. Due to personal commitments, I missed the meeting but Steve Chen handled the official duties well. It was also good practice.

With April upon us and the CRC occurring on the 24-26 at Corpus Christi, I hope you have made plans to be there. Strong chapter member support of the annual CRC is vital to the growth and health of ASHRAE. There will be many topics covered and the chance to renew old acquaintances and make new ones. Mark your calendars now and make your reservations to attend.

Our April 17 meeting will be held in Conference rooms A and B at the Trane company. This will be our second noon meeting and we will be talking to the attendees to determine if more of these meetings should e held next year. Many chapters have greatly improved chapter attendance and participation by holding noon meetings. Even if you are unable to attend, please call and let us know your feelings on this issue. A well-informed chapter serves its members best, so communicate with us!

Mick Ringeisen will present this month’s program on noise control. Noise level is a real problem when the sound level in a conditioned space is distractingly loud to the occupants. When people are irritated and on-edge, production suffers as well as total employee morale. Mick will provide insight into the causes and some solutions to dealing with this problem.

Looking forward to an exciting meeting and good feedback, I will see you at the April meeting!

The Board of Governors meeting was called to order at 5:10 PM with Steve Chen, Steve Hancock, Bert McJimsey, Joe Hague, Dan Pierce, Dick Cawley, Mike Wendt, Gene Branum and Russ Cude in attendance. The minutes from the last meeting as published in the Slipstick were read and approved.

Dick Cawley showed his appreciation to Gene Branum and Joe Hague for their efforts in the Joint Engineers Banquet.

Refrigeration chairman, Mike Wendt reported 200 PAOE points. He expects us to get at least 350, this year.

PR chairman, Russ Cude completed Tyler newspaper article and meeting announcement.

Joe Hague requested that Membership Chairman follow up on which members are current on dues. He reported that History Book is 75% updated in a computer file.

TIGA Chairman, Bill Stiles is working with local Municipals and requested the names of Engineers that are participating in writing of ASHRAE Standards or Materials, Handbooks, Review of papers, Committee Participation, Programs. As Treasurer, he reported a year-end balance of 1749.33 Shares in the Oppenheimer Fund.

Bert Mc Jimsey reviewed new scholarship application criteria. He proposed that it include the following: Be an ASHRAE member, good GPA, preferable 4 year program, recommendation by Faculty Advisor, and a statement (less than 500 words) about student, goals, and how the scholarship will help. These criteria were approved. The scholarship will be advertised and two scholarships will be awarded if there are deserving candidates.

Steve Hancock completed the Slipstick within 48 hrs. of last input. Last-minute submittals continue to delay Slipstick publication.

Steve Chen reported on the up-coming CRC meeting and is working in the election of new officers. He will have some nominations to vote on by the April meeting.

The general meeting started at 7:30 PM with a presentation on ASHRAE STD. 62. by Mike Ray of The Trane Co. His topic included justification for the standard and a section-by-section interpretation of the standard.
