The Internet Comes to ASHRAE On June 12, Eric Ballard of TJC came to the East Texas Chapter of ASHRAE to share his knowledge of the Internet. Eric first presented a brief history of the internet from its inception as the AARPANET, through its popularization with Netscape, to the burgeoning new media that we know today. Eric showed us how to get free e-mail (www.hotmail.com), to talk to friends far away (www.tribal.com), to get up-to-the-minute sports information (www. espn.sportszone.com), news (www.cnn.com), and weather (www.region56.com/special/doplarge.htm). Eric also showed us several sites offering various services and professional organizations (www.ashrae.org and www.tx.nrcs.usda.gov/eng/index.html). For those new to the Internet, Eric’s presentation was an outstanding introduction, and a few East Texas hackers in the audience even picked-up a tip or two. |
