Special thanks to Jason LeRoy, Dick Cawley, Robert Helt, and Jay Field for giving us such exciting insight to what was discussed at the ASHRAE Winter Meeting. I would also like to thank those at the UTT Engineering Department for their gracious hospitality and hope that they would join us again at future ASHRAE meetings. Thanks again everyone. The CRC is once again upon us and this time it’s in Dallas so I’m hoping to see a lot of familiar faces there. APRIL: The CRC (Chapters Regional Conference) will be held in Dallas April 29th through May 1st. If you have never attended a CRC, don’t pass up this opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow members and officers, attend committee workshops and to have a good time! MAY: Our chapter program on May 20th will be "Tyler’s Economy" presented by Mr. Tom Mullins. This is also spouse night. I look forward to seeing you at the CRC in Dallas. Regards, Tom Kennedy, Chapter President March Board of Governors Meeting: Tom Kennedy called the meeting to order at 10:45. The previous month’s meeting minutes were approved as written. In attendance were Tom Kennedy, Robert Helt, Bert McJimsey, Mike Wendt, Dick Cawley, Steve Hancock, Gene Branum, Jeff Stewart, Jay Field, and Rhamy Morrison. Programs Report. Currently have attained 350 points. Our next meeting will be April 15. Do not have a program planned at this time. Some suggestions were Jim Crawford (government affairs update), Jay Field (one of his presentations from ASHRAE), and Estes McClure (comparative testing at a school). Jay agreed to give a presentation on refrigerant oils and acid numbers. Robert Helt will check on arrangements: possibly Ryan’s in the evening. Our last meeting of the year will be on May 20 at Jay Field’s house (on the lake). This will also be spouse night. The presentation will be on Tyler’s economy. There was some question as to whether we can receive points for the joint meeting that we had during Engineers’ Week. Regarding programs for next year, Helt pointed out that the Programs Chair doesn’t need to try to develop programs by himself. We could even form a committee. There will some good information on programs at the CRC. Research Promotion: We have received 290 points to date. Tom will be sending out letters before the end of the week. Joint Engineers Banquet: The program went well and was well attended. It was the best ASHRAE participation that we have had at the joint banquet in recent memory. We discussed some way to recognize Bill Stiles for all of his work. Dick moved we award him with a plaque. Sheri McClain can order it if we give her the wording. Newsletter Report: The latest issue of the newsletter was delayed because it was returned by the post office. Format, tape, etc. has to be exactly right or they will reject it. Dick proposed we start sending out a flyer with just the information on meetings (in addition to the newsletter). We could mail these out sooner than the newsletter to give members more advanced notice. It would also be useful to send to consultants, etc. who may not be members. Rhamy will work with Robert and Steve to try this. Education Report: The paperwork has been completed for the UT Tyler Student chapter. The council won’t be able to actually approve it until June. Therefore, we won’t be credited points for this activity until next year. Some activities upcoming for which we may receive points: Trane facility tours for A&M students, TJC students, and UT Tyler students. The chapter scholarship will be awarded at the April meeting. Bert will have to send out a letter ballot; he’ll work with Gene to nominate a student. Refrigeration Report: We have tallied 200 points to date. Other News and Notes: One suggestion made was to have BOG meetings in the mornings to avoid taking so much time during the day. Everyone was generally in favor. We will try a breakfast meeting at Dwayne’s for our next meeting. Proposed time was 7:30. For the general meetings next year it was suggested we keep them at lunch. Also, they seem to be well attended if they are held at Trane. If we have any tours, it would probably be best to schedule them in late afternoon or evening. We need to begin the nomination process for officers next year. We designated the nominating committee to be Robert Helt, Dick Cawley, and Tom Kennedy. We will need the list of new officers before the CRC. The meeting adjourned at 12:00. Jeff Stewart, Chapter Secretary |
