The East Texas Chapter of ASHRAE has a wide variety of members, and we can always use more!  For the 2007-2008 ASHRAE year, we will periodically publish a biography of selected members from all levels in the chapter organization.

If you would like to join the East Texas Chapter of ASHRAE, you may sign up here, or you may talk to our Membership Promotion officer, Clinton Odom.

Name: Kristin Schaefer

Age: YEA eligible! (Young Engineers in ASHRAE)

Education: BSME and MSME from Texas A&M

Job Title: Product Design Engineer

Bio:

I entered the HVAC&R industry because Trane hired me to work in residential split system design after I graduated from A&M!
I like this industry because it gives me the chance to solve problems that affect daily life. For instance, take my very first project at Trane: I was able to work with a team to design, test, and implement an out door axial fan that is much quieter than the previous one. If you've ever been woken in the middle of a summer night by an outdoor air conditioning unit "kicking on", then you know how important that project was! I've also been part of air handler & air cleaner design projects, doing everything from refrigeration to ergonomic design.
I joined ASHRAE for the networking opportunity to meet other local engineering & industry people, and I stayed for the development opportunity. You never know what you are going to learn at the monthly meeting or a Chapter Regional Conference (CRC). Plus, with our Region VIII incorporating 3 Mexican chapters, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas (except El Paso) getting to the CRC can be half the fun!

Kristin is a Product Design Engineer working in Engineering & Technology and has been with Trane for 4 years. She has served our local chapter in several capacities including Chapter President for 2006-2007. Kristin got into engineering as a way to help people help themselves and because she enjoys making things work.
