President’s Message

Our October meeting was very lively with much interest and many questions for our speaker. I think those who attended would agree, it was time well spent. The meeting minutes will give you a better idea of what was covered by Dr. Spilter.

If heat pumps are not your first love, then perhaps this month’s meeting will be of greater interest. Mr. Doug Fieldhouse will be addressing the issue of thermal expansions valves. This will be a very exciting meeting for several reasons. First, a manufactuer will explain the function and application of a product. Second, we are testing a new meeting format. Responding to the early member survey results, noon meetings were preferred over evening meetings. Hopefully, this time will better fit your schedules.

The location for the November meeting will be the Trane Company. The agenda will be slightly altered to accomodate the time allotted. The meeting will begin promptly at 12:00PM. We will have lunch, and at approximately 12:40PM, Mr. Fieldhouse will begin his presentation. There should also be time for a question and answer period after his presentation. The meeting will adjourn promptly at 1:30PM.

Make plans now to attend this ground breaking meeting!

See you there!

Dan Pierce

The Board of Governors meeting was call to order at 5:15 PM. Present in the meeting were: Steve Chen, Steve Hancock, Tom Kennedy, Dan Pierce, Dick Cawley, Mike Wendt, Bill Stiles, Robert Helt, Gene Branum, and Jose Balderrama.

Minutes from last meetings as written in the September issue of the SlipStick were approved.

Gene Branum reported in student affairs that there are 12 potential applications for membership with a lot of interest from Engineering Students. As part of Student activities, they have planned trips to Martin Lake, NASA as well as to a Ham operator radio site.

Mike Wendt on Refrigeration mentioned that he is already working on a form and will soon go out as a SlipStick attachment which will list the various ASHRAE related activities that individuals might be involved in as they go about their normal business which will qualify for PAOE points.

Steve Hancock reported that the SlipStick was mailed using E-mail when possible. He will be asking in future issues for E-mail addresses or fax numbers to save paper and time. He will be updating his mailing list with a new membership list.

Research promotion chair Tom Kennedy attended the kick off meeting on Sept. 28-29 which he found very informative. He has some ideas to generate revenue and will be suggesting in following meetings. He also said that there are no contributions yet but plans to send solicitation letters in the next couple of weeks. He informed us that the new par contribution is at $50.00.

Bill Stiles reported paying dinner for 3 host in the last meeting. Also the $1.00/member for CRC will be paid soon.

Robert Helt reported on plans and reservations for upcoming meetings.

Steve Chen distributed an updated program schedule and requested that members return the program survey at the next meeting.

The November meeting was designated as Membership night, January as Research Promotion and Student night, and May as History night. Meeting was adjourned at 6:05PM.

General meeting started at 7:30 PM with the introduction of speaker Dr. Jeff Spitler, from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Spitler gave a very interesting talk on Commercial Ground-Source Heat Pumps with many questions from the audience. Attendance was 19 members, 7 students and 3 guests.
