And if you’re like me, you’ve been anxiously waiting for the new ASHRAE year to begin. I can promise you that it’s going to be a year filled with interesting presentations and fabulous tours. I would like to welcome those of you who are new to our ASHRAE family and hope that you play an active part in our Chapter. A Chapter is only as good as its members so we have one of the best Chapters around. An East Texas Chapter Program Schedule has been included with this Slipstick so I hope to see you all at this years meetings. See you where the excitement is, East Texas Chapter Meetings. Sincerely, Tom Kennedy Chapter President
Tom Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8:00. The previous month’s meeting minutes were approved as written. In attendance were Tom Kennedy, Robert Helt, Bert McJimsey, Jeff Stewart, Jay Field, Rhamy Morrison, and Bill Stiles. New Business. Bert McJimsey proposed nominating Dick Cawley for recognition as an ASHRAE Fellow. We are currently working on Jim Crawford’s and the last one before that was Joe Hague. Payment of society dues has continued to be a problem because of the mix-up of combining everyone’s. The problem was brought several times at the CRC. Everyone who has had dues messed up should contact Jay Field and let him know. Patrick Powell has agreed to be the new membership chair. Aubrey Whitney will probably join and assist Rhamy by developing / maintaining our web site. Everyone should look at the web site format that is being set up. Should be a nice improvement. We had good attendance at the CRC this year. All training sessions were attended by one of the incoming officers. Tonight’s Program. Russ Cude will be present; we will present him with a certificate for serving as president and will order a Past President’s pin; Jeff will order it. We will install new officers at tonight’s meeting. All those listed on the ballots were approved: President – Tom Kennedy; Pres. Elect – Jeff Stewart; Secretary – Bert McJimsey; Treasurer – Bill Stiles; BOG – Joe Hague, Robert Helt, Dick Cawley. Roger Tidwell will cater the meal for the meeting; cost is $10. Due to the location (Jay’s house on the lake) we’ll not be able to do a slide preso, so we will have printed handouts. The topic will be of interest to all – a representative from Tyler Economic Development Council; it should be about a 25-minute program. Programs Report. Need to lay out the meeting dates and programs early before our meeting in August. We formed a programs committee, which will consist of: Jeff Stewart (chairman), Robert Helt, Bert McJimsey, and Tom Kennedy. Several ideas were briefly discussed for programs next year: a tour of TXU’s Energy Park, "Designer" refrigerants offered for auto’s etc., 2 spd vs Variable spd preso by Helt, 100 Years of Innovation based on a Time Magazine article, Winter Mtg. summary. We discussed how to encourage more participation from Carrier. It was suggested we try to set up one or more of meetings at their facility. TEGA: Need to participate in design competitions in order to attain points in this area. The new point system raises awareness of energy programs; Stiles will get together some handouts. Newsletter. Need to require it go out at least one week before each meeting next year. The meeting adjourned at 8:40. Jeff Stewart, Chapter Secretary
