We have a great group of officers this year that I think will support our chapter well. As I see it, our purpose as a chapter is to provide value to our members as well as to the industry. We have a unique make-up in the East Texas chapter and will therefore try to leverage our strengths to accomplish this purpose. Our primary focus will be on programs and student activities. We have a good slate of programs taking shape that I think you will enjoy and benefit from. See the list of meeting dates and topics inside to get an idea what’s in store. Student sections at TJC and UTT are in place in our area. With several colleges and numerous high schools in our area, we have many opportunities to help develop qualified engineers and technicians for our industry’s future. A number of our members make presentations, give tours, help with competitions, and work with students in other ways. I encourage you to get involved in the chapter. Join us at our first meeting or contact one of the officers to see how you can participate. Let’s make it a great year! Jeff Stewart Chapter President
Following are the minutes from our Board of Governors meeting August 18, 2000. Jeff Stewart called the meeting to order at 12:08 PM at The Trane Company meeting facilities. In attendance were Patrick Powell, Rhamy Morrison, Robert Helt, Jason LeRoy, Steve Christopher, Bert McJimsey, Gene Branum, Dick Cawley, Bob Greendyke, Steve Hancock, Jay Field, Mike Wendt, and Jeff Stewart. New Business. Jeff Stewart – President Jeff discussed the results of PAOE points from last year. From an absolute value standpoint, we came in dead last, garnering up a mere 1996 points. The 2000 barrier seems to have eluded us yet again. On a more relevant metric, the East Texas chapter was fifth in PAOE Points per member, turning in a solid 32.7 PPM. The highest scoring region was Monterrey, with an astonishing 104.4 PPM, and the lowest scoring region was the Dallas Chapter, with a mere 7.1 PPM**. Jeff reiterated that two of the goals of our chapter are to maintain a strong student activity participation, and to have outstanding programs this year. ** Thanks go to Steve Hancock for compiling the statistics Officers / Duties. Handed out contact lists for region and local officers. Briefly discussed officer duties and PAOE reporting. All chairman need to make it a point to keep in contact with their RVC. Bert McJimsey – Programs Bert gave an overview of the tentative program schedule. For more information, see the attached spreadsheet: Bob Greendyke – Student activities Bob announced that there will be a joint student ASHRAE/ ESA banquet again this year in April. He welcomed any ASHRAE members who would like to attend this event. Miscellaneous Board of Governors will meet on Tuesdays from 11:45-1:00 this year. The meeting place will be decided on a month to month basis. We reviewed the newsletter judging categories and assigned responsibilities for various sections of the newsletter. The newsletter will be published to the web and a hot-link sent out via e-mail each month. A hard copy will be sent only to those who do not have e-mail. Jason will maintain the e-mail distribution list. A planing meeting will be held at the end of each month for those involved in the Newsletter, Program, Publicity, and Web Page. As a chapter, consistent with the society’s vision of maintaining a green environment, we are moving towards a paperless communication system. Expect any and all distributions to be done via email from this point forward. The chapter is sponsoring the Standard 90.1-1999 satellite broadcast. See advertisement below.
